Rooted in Hawai’i. Reaching Above and Beyond.

Who We Are

Team Hōkūlele is a student-led amateur rocketry project at University of Hawai’i. We design, build, launch, and recover solid-propellant rockets capable of reaching altitudes as high as 30,000 feet above ground level.

We provide opportunities for undergraduate students to gain technical experience, develop leadership skills, and learn about high-power rocketry, while strengthening connections within the local aerospace community.

2026 - 2027 Mission Statement

Team Hōkūlele will design, build, launch, and recover a two-stage solid-propellant rocket with a target altitude of 26,000 feet, to demonstrate a high-power launch vehicle that deploys a 2-liter payload, implements cameras that provide live-video feed along with a recording from takeoff to landing, and conforms to the FAR-Unlimited competition guidelines. This project provides a platform for undergraduate students to gain technical experience and develop leadership skills while strengthening connections within the local aerospace community. In May 2027, the team will demonstrate its abilities to meet project objectives at the FAR-Unlimited competition held in the Mojave Desert.
